Timberline Round 2

C-team – We had a closer game in the first half than the last time around but ended up winning a big game but about 20 points. Noelia told me that we moved the ball well and really hustle well and our shooting was up.

JV – We jumped out early and never looked back, in the first half we made 15 baskets and 13 assists!!!!! We were running the court well and passing even better. We moved so well that Timberline kept changing their defense to try and slow us down. I was very happy with how we played and worked as a team for the whole game.

Var- Once again the scrappy Timberline blazers gave us fits! But ultimately, our good shooting and tough defense pulled through. We had GREAT streaks of team play!! and some streaks where we couldn’t do much right. Ultimately behind GREAT shooting, and tough rebounding we proved to be too much! Kristyn had 12 rebounds and Aria had 9. The highlight of the night was a great shooting night by Tosha who went 7-10 from the field and 17 for 23 from the line to set a school record with 34 points!!!

@North Thurston – Round 2

What a day!!!!

The JV girls started the day off a little rough. We were down 19-8 late in the first quarter. But instead of folding we Busted our butts and scrapped and clawed our way back to a 23-21 deficit and that is after just missing a shot as the buzzer went off that would have tied the game.

In the 2nd half we played really well! We stretched our lead out to 8 and they promptly tied the game. But we were in control the rest of the way. If we could make our free throws, we would have won by a more comfortable margin, but a win is a win.

The C-team played at Chinook MS. but they were in control whole way. Rumor has it that they were up 30-0 at one point on the way to a 35-6 win.

The varsity played hard, but had a hard time pulling away. Eventually the Cougars proved to be more than the Rams could handle and ended up cruising to a 17 point victory.

Again, it is great to see our girls playing as a TEAM!!! We are making great things happen at all levels and it is fun to watch!!

Next up Timberline, JV and C at Capital and Varsity at Olympia, unless (keep your fingers crossed – The gym HVAC system is working by then!!)

YELM – Round 1

All in all it was a good night for the Cougs!!! The C-team played well and came away with a close hard fought 2 point win!!

In the other gym things were not going as well for the JV squad. We played very hard and MANY times had the yelm girls scrambling for what to do since they couldn’t get a clean look at the basket because our defense was sooo good. Unfortunately our shots didn’t fall :( and we ended up with a 51-41 defeat. I look forward for a chance to get revenge next time out!!!!

The Varsity game was a treat to watch!! Our girls played AMAZING!! We played great defense all night long and kept the tornados guessing at what was coming at them next!! If you read the paper you got to hear about Bree, Tosha, Kristyn, and Taylor and what they contributed, but I think one of the key things for our victory was the fact that Brenna was all over the court grabbing loose balls and rebounds and playing great defense.

I really look forward as to what is going to happen for the rest of the season for all 3 teams!!

@ Timberline (round 1)

We had some fun today and some interesting things happen!

The C-team played great and ended up winning by over 30 points with great efforts from everyone.

The JV team ended up winning by 32 points today but we had a number of good things happen for us. First – at one point in time we had about 16 assists on 19 made shots. (thanks Don for tracking that!) Which means that we are moving the ball REALLY WELL and getting it to the open player who is MAKING their shots. Also, for the first time in a long time, we took the full court press off and still played great defense and extended our lead!!

The Varsity team wasn’t quite so fortunate last night! We ended with a 2 point loss to a much improved Timberline Varsity team. We played hard, but couldn’t always get the ball in the hole!! I think the next time around will be a very different game!

Aussie game

Our Varsity had a good game against a travelling Australian team last night. They have been on the road for 21 days.

It was a fun night that lead to us getting a hard fought win but a comfortable win. Rachel was the leader of our well rounded scoring tonight, tallying 11 points on the night!

I am sorry I forgot to get the totals for Rebounds but Coach Wells pointed out how we had 18 assists on 23 made baskets last night! That is an OUTSTANDING total. Nice job ladies!!!!

OLYMPIA -

We had 3 hard fought games today. What would you expect from a rivalry game.

The day started off with the JV girls. The first half was very crazy. We had many opportunities but didn’t always come through. We missed 11 free throws! and 17 shots! The result was us being down 17-19.

The 2nd half was a total different story. In the 3rd quarter Taylor came off the bench and really made things happen for us defensively and started our run by hitting both of her free throws in the 3rd quarter.
We finally took the lead late in the 3rd quarter and never gave it back!!

In the 4th quarter, Brianne, Alex, and Kendal played great with the ball and without. Showing some real great court sense. We hit 12 of 14 free throws in the 4th. Alex was 4-4 and Kendal was 5-6. and Brianne hit the clinching free throw with 3.9 seconds to go!!

In the C-Team game, unfortunately we couldn’t get that little orange ball to go through that round thing that hangs above the court!! and to make the problems worse, the Oly girls had a hard time missing. We made a run late in the game and couldn’t quite get all the way back into the game. There were a lot of great hustle plays that just didn’t turn into enough points.

In the varsity game, it was the story of 2 halves! In the first half, we had many turnovers and had problems getting shots up and getting loose balls. In the 2nd, Tosha and Aria started scoring and in the 4th quarter Brenna and Kristyn were grabbing a ton of rebounds and loose balls. In the end we came up 9 points short.
