Gig Harbor at Capital

Gig Harbor at Capital

What an interesting day – We had pretty good athletes on both sides that we out due to traveling to Oregon to compete over the next few days and then we had crazy PNW weather – decent then windy then rain – nice – rain – well you get the idea.

Any way here is how things went today, let’s start with the ladies.

The first round was where the weather first started hitting us.

Maddie J.  tied her PR in the HJ and picked up her first varsity win in the HJ.

Jumping over to the discus event we saw a number of PR’s Sada had a BIG PR of almost 7 full feet.  Followed by Hailey with about a 3’ PR and then Tayler with a PR of just under a foot.  Nice job ladies!!

Where we really excelled today as a team was in the sprints

In the 100 we had a number of PR” s actually quite a few.  Ellie – Yulisa-Jeanette-Kelbe-Ann and Katerina all had PR’s today Ellie and Ann lead the way with PR’s of .3 seconds – a big jump for a 100m runner J

The 100 hurdles were just as impressive.  Ellie and Hannah F both had season bests and Maddie T, Maddie J, and Riley all had PR’s  Maddie J dropped .3 from last year’s best and .5 from this year’s best. Riley matched the feat with a .5 PR while Maddie T dropped .4.  Those are all GREAT PR’s looking forward to where they are going to end up.

The 200 brought PR’s from Yulisa, Maddie M, and Tayler.  Morgan and Kaily both had season bests.  Yulisa blazed her way to a .4 deduction but not to be outdone Maddie M. dropped .6 seconds!!!

The distance races had some great performances as well.  In the 800 Maria, Skylar, and Ingrid had Season best and Nancy set a new PR. For the 16—both Sarah and Maria had great races with nice PR’s Maria had her first ever HS win for track in just a great race in the 1600.

For the boys, today it was also pretty impressive.

Every Capital boy in the 100 had a lifetime or season best!!  Congrats to Noah – Oliver and Ben for season bests and new PR’s for Carson, and Colby.  Carson has dropped almost a full second for his 100 so far this season.

Not too much later Carson came back with his first 400 setting a PR AND getting his first win on the track, and then followed it up with a win in the LJ as well.  All in all, I would say it was a great day for Carson.

In the 800 Jared and Micah got new PR’s both pulling in fine 3 second PRs.

For the 1600 Joe and Cameron set PRs but David had a HUGE day – Dropping 25 seconds on the day, and has now dropped his 1600 by 1:12 on the season alone.  GREAT racing today.

As with the ladies – the 110 hurdles were nice – both Caleb and Eben set new PR’s both dropped about .6 for the season still going!! Eben also secured a new PR in the 300 hurdles.

Speaking of the 300’s Steven dropped his time by 3 full seconds this year!! AND got a win today – his first for his HS career!!  He won by .01

Tyghler continues his great freshman year again getting PR’s in both the shot and the disc.  Throwing a 7” PR in the shot but 18’2” in the discus – Yes you read that right OVER 18 FEET, breaking 100’ for the first time.

Joining him with PR’s in the disc were Taden and Eli who both improved by a few feet.

The Javelin had Ryan, Micah, Brandon and Ronan all getting PR’s.  Ryan and Micah both had 5’ PR’s and Brandon PR’d by 12 feet today

In the long jump, we already talked about Carson’s win and Carter placed today as well and pulling in a nice PR.

Team scores today had the Men pulling in a nice win over the Tides, the girls were not so fortunate as Gig handed us our first loss in the new league.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped today and a bigger thanks to the athletes who stayed until the end of the meet.  Which, by the way, is the team expectation.

Arnie Young

Arnie Young information:

Overall it was a good day.  We had 22 season or personal best, which is really great based on the obstacles we had – end of spring break – cold weather – wind – etc.

For the first time this year we got to run the Distance Medley Relays (DMR) and faired pretty well.  The girls ended up on the podium with a 7th place finish, our first awards of the day!!!! Well done Melissa, Aven, Sarah and Maria J

In the 100 Paris set a new season best and is closing in on her overall PR from last year, I have a feeling that will fall soon.  Jason brought the speed to the 200 and set a new season best and took over the area lead in that event (you can read more about that here: )

Then he turned around and also did it in the 400 (actually the 400 came first but we won’t tell)

Also in the 400 Parker, Regie and Lexi all set at least season bests, pretty good day for us in that event!!

In the 1600 both Morgan A. and Shasta raced to new PR’s and solid races.  The 3200 belonged to Bella as she also had an area best time and just over 1 second off of her PR from the district meet last season.

The girls 4×100 did really well considering we had to make a change literally 25 min before the event started as Kaily tweaked her back in the 100 and could not get loose so we didn’t want risk injury. Thank you Kelsey for being ready to roll on short notice.

Field events provided some nice outcomes for us as well.  First up was Addie in the shot, continues to move up the all-time list and placed 4th on the day.   Izzy had a nice day in the Pole vault with a new PR getting over that 8’ barrier – I expect that she and Kelsey will both soon be over 9’.  Tia really had a fine day as she started with a 1” PR in the shot put but came up HUGE in the discus!  She squeaked into finals with a decent throw but not what she wanted and then came up in her first throw of finals and had a BIG 3” PR throwing over 100’ for the first time and come home with a throw of 102’5” and a ribbon for her efforts

For the guy’s field events: Ethan came in with a nice PR in the Long jump at 19-10.5 and will hit 20 and n the Very near future.  Paden got in a good start in the Javelin with a throw of 124’  Tyghler also had a 4’+ pr in the discus

Next up is a HOME meet with Gig Harbor (we could use some help) this Thursday and then a trip to UO for the Oregon Relays for those that get in (more information to come)

All–time list – (I am still working on getting the guys lists updated so I can give our accurate information. But here are all the girls that have made it onto our record book so far this season

Regie 400:  10th all time junior

1600 Naomi 11th all-timee Junior

3200 Naomi 12th all-time junior

3200 Bella 6th all-time Senior

Triple jump:  Chloe 4th all-time Senior

Shot put:  Addie 11th all-time and 9th Senior

Discus:  Tia 14th all-time and 8th Junior

Javelin:  Sophia – 7th Junior (next on the list is Coach Millers daughter Katie)

Pole Vault: Kelsey 3rd (tie) all-time and 2nd (tied) junior

Pole Vault: Izzy 6th (tie) all-time and 3rd (tie) sophomore

Hope I have not missed anyone!!!!

Peninsula at Capital

Peninsula at Capital

Cougs win –Cougs win – COUGS WIN!!!  When we left the meet we thought the boys had won , they did 76-69, after sweeping the PV to come from behind on the last event to win.  The Girls left the meet thinking we had lost 71-70, turns out we won because the shot put had not been entered.  We went 1-2 in that event and WON 78-72!!!!!!

Since field events were the last to get added lets start with those today!!!

The team set 32 new PR’s today (boys and girls combined) just in the field events – some of that was from the fact that some people were doing events for the first time but the VAST majority were not those.

The boys won 4 of the 6 field events today. Tim – LJ, Ethan – PV, John – HJ, Elliot – Disc, and Angus – shot.

The BIG one of the day came from Elliot who in 3 meets has PR’d at 108’ then 110’ and today throws 126’9.5” he is now 33’ better than he was at the end of last season!!!  Also with PR’s in the disc today were Colby, Tyghler, Jake, Kees, and Corbin.

The Javelin throwers had PR’s from Mika, Ryan, Carter and then Ronan hit triple digits for the first time today throwing EXACTLY 100’ J

Tyghler continued his strong early freshman year by throwing a 1’ PR today and Korbin Ryan and Milo also had or set new PR’s in this event.

Our jumps were pretty strong today – As mentioned earlier Ethan, Noah and Carter swept the Vault and Hunter was just out of the points with an new PR.  Tim and Carson controlled the LJ going 1-2 with a season best and PR respectively Colby and Hunter also both set PR’s  Ryder had a season best in the Triple and a strong 3rd place season best in the High Jump. And John hit 6-0 for the first time this year to win the HJ.  And he only had 2 misses leading up to that .

For the girls in the field events we either scored 2 of the 3 places, won, or did both in ALL of the field events.

Starting with the throws – Addie and Janessa went 1-2  and Tia established a new PR.  Addie’s throw of 34-05 is a PR by 10” and now moves her up the all time list to 11th and is 9th on the senior list.  Not to be outdone Tia and Jeanette went 1-2 in the discus, both with season bests.  Sada, Tayler, Hailey W, and Lizzy all checked in with new PR’s today!! Haileys was just under a 6’ improvement and Lizzy was right around 4’.  The javelin saw Sophia and Kelsey bringing in points, we were expecting the Sophia win but Kelsey picked up the Javelin this week for the first time and beat Peninsulas #2 girl by just 2” grabbing that all important point for us.

In the HJ – Kyra and Tae’lor both had great PR’s today to go 2nd and third, and Aven also set a new PR with a 4” improvement.  The long jump had Chloe in 2nd and Emily getting almost a foot and a half PR and her first ever points in a varsity event pulling in the 3rd place.  Not to be outdone but Katerina had just under a 2’ PR which is just HUGE for a Long jump!!!  Maddie M also checked in the LJ with a PR.

The running events we continued to have great things going on.

100m: PR’s out of Kelsey, Emily, Yulisa, Jeanette, Katerina, Ann, and Uluani for the girls and the boys had Ethan, Carson, Gabe and Colby (that’s 3 for him if you weren’t counting!)  Tim and Ethan were just .01 apart at the finish line getting 2nd and 3rd and Paris pulled in a very strong 2nd

200m:  PR’s by Carson, Clayton, Nic, Michael and Jesiah and the girls had a ton of season records but Maddie M checked in with a nice PR Chloe brought home a 3rd for the girls. While Tim pulled away to win the boys with Carson in a very solid 3rd place.

400:  Jason pulled in a win for the guys and Colby set his HS pr in the 400 (pretty sure that is 4 events 4 PR’s) all the guys had at least a season best. Lexi pulled in a very solid win and Maddie M finished 3rd scoring her first HS points in a meet (also a PR)

800:  Emily J and Aven were able to bring in 2nd and 3rd for the team and Emma joined Emily as they set new PR’s today The boys swept with Tanner winning and setting a new PR and Zach and Parker (2nd – 3rd) also super solid races.  Jeremy, Damian, Jared and Micah all had PR’s today.

1600:  Every boy that ran set a PR today, Cameron, Tommy and David all had their best races.  Shasta picked up her PR and her 2nd win in 2 weeks in league competition today. She was joined by Melissa, Tayler, Sarah, Nancy and Hope all with PR’s. For Sarah it was her first 1600 of the season and a 6 sec PR!

3200:  There were some GREAT races here today on both sides.  For the Boys Dan (2nd) Jacob, Morgan, Joe and Ezra all had PR’s and Dan’s race against the Peninsula was just outstanding. On the Girls side there was an AMAZING 3 way race for the points that finished 1st-3rd all withing 2 seconds of each other.  Naomi and the 2 peninsula girls were all fighting and competing for the whole race. Grace finished just out of the points but broke 13 min in her first ever 3200. Maria not only PR’d but broke her season goal time today!!!  Time to set a new one.

110H – the times are currently wrong for the boys hurdles so I can’t comment on Ebens time but he got out there and competed in an event that is very tough for freshman guys – those hurdles are HIGH.  In the 300’s both Steven and Eben set new PR’s

100mH this was a good event for the girls – every girl set a new PR or at least a season best – Ellie ended up with a solid Win by just .02 sec and Maddie T had just under a full 2nd PR.

For the 300’s the Peninsula girl was able to get her Pay back on Ellie beating her to the tape by .03 seconds for snag 2nd place from us.  Kyra, Maddie T, and Riley all had PR’s today.

The relays were REALLY great for us today.

We won both the boys relays (4×400 was a season best set by Nic, Parker, Zach and Tanner ) and the girls 4×1 ( Season best by Kaily, Kyra, Paris and Regie) and 4×2 ( Season best by Maggie, Hannah, Paris, and Regie)  before Peninsula grabbed victory in the 4×400. If you didn’t see the girls relays you missed out.  Both races were really tight until Regie took control in the Anchor leg of both relays. Also, the 2nd 4×200 team today also beat our previous season best in the 4×200.

Currently we have 14 boys ranked in the top 5 in their event for the league and our relays are both in the top 2.

For the girls we have 13 in the top 5 and Ellie leads the league in the 100m Hurdles and Kelsey leads the league in the PV.  All of our relays are top 5 and tonights 4×200 time took over the league lead.

Thanks for Reading -  It’s fun writing these up when sooo many great things are happening.  I hope to have many more great things to chat about for the rest of the season.

Kent Meridian Invite

Kent- Meridian – the meet that went for a LONG time!!!!

It was a long day for those of us who were there the whole time!  That is for sure but the results were pretty good for us.  With the exception of a few events we really were able to show well in most event areas.

Today we will go by event:

They boys got us off to a great start with Tim and Jason dominating their heat and finishing 5th and 6th overall and Tim setting a new PR dropping his time by almost .2 seconds

Clayton pulling in a 2nd place finish in the Freshman category

Kaily lowered her time from Thursday and Kyra set a new HS PR on her way to crushing her heat and placing 5th over.

Tim set ANOTHER PR this time by .4 sec and pulled in a 4th

Regie dominated her heat and pulling in a strong 3rd place finish

Morgan and Emily both had strong races and Emily set a new PR by over a full second!

1600: brought a number of PR’s Grace was 4th in the freshman race with a great run – lowering her time from Thursday by 5 seconds and a new HS PR.

Maria and Naomi really competed well and had season times.

Tanner also set a new PR as did Ayden for the boys

3200 was huge for us on this day J  Danny and Jacob both set PR’s for Jacob it was 10 secs faster than Thursday and for Danny it was a full 2 second PR

For the ladies – Bella finished 6th just off of last year’s PR but the race of the day was from Marin.  She fell and still was able to pick up a PR of right around 30 seconds – yes you read that right 30 seconds….and her first time breaking 12 minutes!!!!  GREAT RACE.

100/110 hurdle we saw season improvement from Ethan – Caleb and Riley in the short hurdles

in the 300 Hurdles Kyra dropped her time by .8 from Thursday

For the Field events, it was kind of a crazy day..

The wait times were crazy and didn’t lead to great competing and hard to compete really well.

These athletes set at least season bests for their events.

Sophia in the javelin – on her way to a 7th place finish

Kelsey and Izzy tied their PV marks but placed 4th and 7th respectively

Hannah in the Long jump

Elliot bucked the trend and had a nice PR improving another 2’ over Thursday.

Angus also had a season best in the discus.

Tim continued his full day with a season best and 8th place finish in the LJ and Caleb wasn’t far behind him with also a Season best!!

Both teams finished in the middle of the pack for team scores which is pretty good for first time at this meet and we didn’t have a full complement of athletes.  With that said, most of our athletes REALLY competed well today. Even the athletes who did not place or get bests it was nice to see them get out and just compete with the people around them.

Capital vs Shelton – first meet of the year.

Capital at Shelton Meet #1

Well the weather held up better than expected but clearly wasn’t the best we could have had!

It was a great start for us J we had a bunch of PR’s (Personal records for those of you who are new to the term) I won’t talk about SR (Season Records) because it is our first meet of the year and everyone got one.

On the girl’s side:

We set 34 PR’s today – many of them were because this was the first time that they competed at the high school level J  but there were a few that really stood out to me as I watched the meet.  Right away you could see that Marin was ready to roll in the 3200 running an 11 sec PR over last year.   Jumping right over to the Pole vault – Izzy tied her lifetime PR and Kelsey set a new lifetime PR of 8’ which moves her to 5th all-time and the 3rd person on the junior list.

Maddie T. actually had the fastest time of the day in the 100 hurdles out of the 2nd heat.  A really great run for her first HS race.  Back to the field events we had had some pretty outstanding performances.  Addie set a lifetime PR in the shot put by 9” it moves her up the all-time list to #14 and puts her in #11 on the senior lists.  Then over at the HJ Kyra S. got her first HS win going 4-6 and almost getting 4-8.

On the day, we ended up winning 14 of 18 events and sweeping the points in 4 events on the day! Running away with the totals, winning 96-32.

On the boy’s side:

The boys set 41 PR’s (Personal records for those of you who are new to the term) I won’t talk about SR (Season Records) because it is our first meet of the year and everyone got one.  Many of the PR’s are because it was the first HS competition for many of our guys today!

They ended winning the day 83-53 in a very nice showing today.  The boys won 11 of 17 events and swept all the points in 2 events.  Some highlight marks for the day.  Tim F had a great 100 in a new PR, starting the season better than he ended last year which was pretty darn good.  Clayton won his heat of the 100 in convincing fashion, he would have been 5th in the varsity race.

Tanner set a new PR during his victory in the 1600, and then the distances continued to roll in the 3200.  Dan raced to victory with a PR but Jacob and Joe helped sweep the event all with PR times.

In the discus Elliot had to overcome a late field trip bus and still made it to the meet getting a nice PR to place 2nd in the discus. It was actually just under a 15’ PR which is pretty impressive.

Noah Hamilton also PR’d in the PV – (Great day in that event for the Cougs) going 11-0 that is a full foot PR for him.  Ryder won his first ever Triple jump event even after having to run back and forth with the running events and the HJ.  In the long jump the boys were also able to get a sweep!  Ethan set a new outdoor LJ PR while competing for Capital (I think he told me he had jumped better but I could be wrong)

All in all, it was a good day for Capital!!

Next up we have Kent-Meridian invite on Saturday – be at the school by 6:45am and we should be back around 5:30.   Please be prepared with food!  Next week we host Peninsula

Thanks for your time reading

WCD/ SWW meet (What we call Districts)

What a crazy weekend for our teams!!!  Busy 2 days of ups and downs – Emotions/misunderstandings – and lost of PR’s!!!!  For those of you who don’t normally see these posts some information – I try to highlight all PR’s and kids who are advancing to make it manageable.  Sorry if I don’t mention someone.

I want to take a few moments and more than a few words to say that first of all, we are all truly human, and I appreciate how parents and athletes can adjust and go with the flow when others are being human!  We had some tough situations this weekend  and I appreciate how people handle them.  Anyway.

I was going to do Friday then Saturday but I just decided to go through the meet in event order on so I don’t miss anyone. For most of the races they ran in 2 heats evenly seeded – the winner from each heat and the next 4 fastest times moved on to state

So we will start with the 100m.  The boys run first and Zach started the event off well winning his heat out of lane 1. and if  you know how seeding works –that means Zach had a tremendous run out of the inside lane, he ended up 3rd overall and will be running next week as well.

Paris and Regie followed suit by both running new PR’s WITH slight head winds – They were both great runs and Paris improved by another .15 from her huge PR last week.  Regie got a nice PR especially since her previous PR was with the wind at her back.  Now to beat that with wind going the other way is a nice Jump.  These times make Paris 15th all time and 6th on the Sophomore list and Regie is now #4 all time and the #2 Sophomore – looking forward to what future seasons bring this young ladies.

In the 200’s  both Jason and Regie just missed overall PR’s  that they set at the Shaner invite BUT both had great races and are moving on to the state meet next week.  Jason finished 6th and Regie finished 4th overall.   According to my records no CHS girl has ever been on the podium for the 200m, maybe that can change next week.

400M: Lexi worked hard all week to learn how to use the blocks and did a great job.  She ran herself to a new PR and beat her seeded entry by a few spots.  It moves her up to #19 all time.

800M:  It was a good day for our 800 runners – we had 3 running and all 3 walked away with PR’s  For the boys Zach and Jamison both  had really strong finishes.  Zach’s had a PR of just under a second and Jamison was just over a second.  Aven followed suit and set a lifetime PR by just over a second.

1600M:  Beau ran a tough race setting out on a mission for a PR.  While the weather wasn’t the best for it, he had a very fine race getting 4th and moving on to the State meet next week

3200M:  Bella had her race of the season, and that includes the 56 sec PR she had last week.  This week, she dropped another 22 and ran 11:39.  Bella has worked hard all year and had a number of injury set backs along the way.  She has at times raced a little to hard early in races to get out kicked at the end.  This day showed none of that.  She stayed with the lead pack the entire way and was in 6th place starting the last lap – and 7th was on her shoulder challenging her.  BUT Bella had probably her best last 200 of the season, ran away from 7th and punched her ticket to the state meet.  1 week ago Bella wasn’t even on the all time list and last week jumped in at #16 and is now #10 just .96 seconds from #9 (who happens to be Madison Guscott – Ryan’s older sister) She also jumped to #6 on the Junior list.

100H Both Ellie and Hannah saw PR’s in the hurdles on Friday, and both girls moved up on the all time lists.  Ellie and her 16.92 to #10 all time and the #6 Sophomore time while Hannah moved up to #19 and the #7 junior time with her 17.54 time.

The 4×100 relays were nicely done for both the guys and the girls.  The boys raced their way to the state meet by dominating their heat and finishing 3rd overall. It was a nice run by Tim, Zach, Jason, and Zach.  On the girls side we had another strong showing and we just keep getting better and better – they finished 5th just .07 away from 4th – next week is going to be good when Laurel, Chloe, Paris, and Regie line up at the state meet, with a chance to break the 50 second barrier., which only 2 different teams in school history have done  (that I can find – might have been 3 – but still )

4×200 – OMG – if you were here last year you remember that we had both Prelims and finals in the 4×200 that were just crazy AND probably gave everyone minor heart issues.  This year was no different.  We made some changes in order , which we felt would make us a stronger team.  Well there was a “problem” with one of the hand offs but it totally didn’t make a difference because the girls were AMAZING – Laurel and Hannah put us in Great position time wise and Chloe and Regie brought it home both girls racing just flat our incredible – the team finish 5th but were closing on 4th and 3rd like crazy – if we had 25 more meters in the race they might have been 3rd.  We will be getting another chance next week at state.

4×400 both guys and girls ran great races today and came away with PR’s with the people that were running.  Tanner, Ryan, Zach and Jason were strong all the way through, ran a PR and beat there seed place as well.  For the girls we literally had to make a change during warm ups.  (more on that later) but Ellie was ready as our Alternate and they ran GREAT!  A season best for this group and also beating our seed by a few spots – I was super proud of them to just adjust to the situation and not be phased.

Shot Put:  Both Angus and Janessa came away with new PR’s . Angus’s came on his way to making finals and placing 7th overall.  For Janessa, it proves that her throw last week was not a just a one time thing and continuing her growth as a thrower.  Addie made finals in her first district meet a note worthy accomplishment.

Long jump: They boys had some pretty good conditions on Friday and they tood advantage of those.   Both Tim and Caleb jumped to season bests. This event showed how just ¼” is huge.  Caleb just missed making finals but ¼”  and Tim’s PR of just ¾” put him ¼” ahead of 7th place and earned that trip to state next week.

This morning brought conditions that were not as nice as yesterday so it took some Jfocus and determination to perform well.  Chloe had both today.  She came in with a PR or 15 -2.25 and she jumped 15-2, 15-6 and then 16-2 ¼ in the prelims.  Netting her a full foot PR.  And a trip to finals where she held on to 6th place and earned her trip to state.  That jump moves her up from #20 all time to #7 and #2 on the junior list (#1 is 16-6)

The last event for us this weekend was the ladies in the discus – it was an interesting and great day for us.  First off the event was moving along rather slow and I think got a little bit of a slow start  – well except for our girls!  Both Jeanette and Tia had great days!!!  Last week Tia had a 3 ‘ PR at league and this week she added on another 6 –YES 6 FEET throwing 99’10” now, about this time she is supposed to be warming up for the 4×400 as our #2 runner (I know multi talented isn’t she) but with it looking very likely that she was going to make finals we made the decision to pull her from the 4×4 and have Ellie run (thanks again Ellie)  Well not to be outdone.  Jeanette was having the meet of her season as well.  She has been between 87-5 and 89-3 all season long, UNTIL TODAY!  She had a huge jump all the way to 99-0 !!!  Yes 10 feet –Well 9 feet 9 inches but who is counting.  Tia moves up to #17 all time and Jeanette is now #19 on the list.  It is kind of funny is that they both moved to #5 on the grade lists Jeannette on the frosh list and Tia on the sophomore list.  The funny thing is that they both replace the same person on the list.  Danica Wolfe got moved to #6 on both lists on the same day.  Kinda funny.

So our state list:  (if I missed someone – I am soo sorry – please let me know so I can update it)

State runs a little bit different in that you have to run Prelims and finals.  To qualify for finals the top 3 finishers in each heat and the next 2 fastest times move on to finals. Field events are done as normal and the 1600 and 3200 just run finals an no prelims (all 16 in the same race).

Thursday :

3:30 –  Girls 4×200  Prelims– Laurel – Hannah – Chloe- Regie – Alts

5:05 Beau 1600 – Finals

10:05  Chloe – Long jump

Narrows League Day 2

Well most of you already know the good news.  The Capital ladies brought home our first League championship since 2011.  We have the very last championship in the  Narrows league since our league next year is called the South Sound Conference.

We scored 184.5 points – far better than the 120-130 I thought we would get.  CK and Wilson had 136.5 and 132.5 – they were the top 2 last season and everyone expected them to be the top 2 this year.  Another interesting note is that combined with the guys we had the highest total in 3A.

On to the happy updates. – First of all realize that today was not a ready that was really conducive to PR’s too much wind and colder than it has been.

The day started well over in the HJ  – Laurel pulled in a strong 2nd place while Maddie tied her PR and earned her way onto the podium in 7th.  Kelbe who was seeded 11th finished 9th

At the Javelin runway, Sophie was fighting the wind and finished in 3rd for the day. Breanna who was just barely added to the meet and seeded 16th finished a strong 11th today.

Our first event on the track was the 4×200 where Chloe got us off to a great start, Hannah and Laurel definitely didn’t do anything to hurt us but Wilson was also having a strong day.  Regie got the baton in strong position but on this day Wilson was just too strong – We finished a strong 2nd with a new PR.  And beat MT who has beat us a few times this year.

Next up was the 3200 an event that we were seeded well in but CK was seeded a little better.  It turned out that both groups ran well.  Bella raced her way to a 56 sec PR and a 2nd place finish.  That time puts her 16th all time and #8 on the junior list (fun fact:  1 spot in front of my daughter) Right behind her was Naomi with another strong tactical race.  Kallie and Marin were both right at their PR’s

About this time in the meet CK starts to make a little run on us. In the 300 Hurdles they pick up some points but we had Ellie who ran strong with a 5th place finish.  The BIG race came from Maddie who PR’d by over 2 seconds and based on the race I don’t know which is bigger – hers or Bella’s, they were both pretty amazing.

Next up was the 800, the event that CK has the biggest advantage in.  They were able to put 4 girls on the podium to our 1. And really make up some points on us.  But it sure wasn’t from lack of effort.  Aven ran her best time of the season, placing 6th and qualifying for one more week. Inanna was about to bring in a 4 sec drop with an amazing finish and Maria followed suit with her 4 sec PR.

About now I was getting worried about the overall scores.  Wilson was closing fast and CK was now just 7 points behind us with 5 events to go. Next up for us was the Shot put – Probably the best team event for us on the day.  I walk over to be greated by Addie who was in 1st place,  and excited because Elise and Janessa were joining her in finals.  Well the #1 seeded girl ended up coming back and retaking 1st place but Addie finished 2nd. Janessa had an amazing day throwing a PR of 2’2” and throwing over 30’ for the very first time. She ended up in 4th and just in front of Elise who finished 5th with a PR of just over a foot herself!!  This dropped the CK girls out of scoring and gave us a huge bump that nobody could catch!!

Back on the track was the 200 where Regie finished 2nd and Paris, as in the 100m, ran another huge PR.  She took .5 sec off of her best, while she didn’t place it was a great run, that ends up being the 5th fastest time of the year for Capital in the 200.

In the Long jump, out last field event, it was a rough day for ALL the jumpers.  They were all jumping into a head wind and it wasn’t warm enough to really make it a good day.  Chloe fought her way into 5th place and Hannah joined her on the podium in 8th.

By this time we have over a 30 point lead and the results of the 4×4 don’t matter in the team race, but there are bragging rights to be had.  Our team of Kelsey, Tia, Morgan and Lexi run our 3rd fastest time of the year and get a solid 4th place finish.

We finished with 23 lifetime or season bests in this meet.  And we did something that RARELY, if ever happens.  We are taking at least 1 girl to district in every event, not most but EVERY event.  I could not find a time in Capital history where that has happened.  I will have to look again on another day when I can make sure I am giving it an accurate look.

Here is who will be competing for us next week in the District/Regional meet.

100: Regie – Paris

200: Regie

400: Lexie

800: Aven

1600:  Bella (Naomi – ALT)

Shot: Addie, Janessa, Elise

High Jump: Maddie

Any girl who was on the podium is automatically considered an alternate into the district meet and should plan on attending – we already have 2 of our alternates listed above who will be competing.

Narrows league championships day 1

I thought last week was a good week – this week sure got off to a great start.  As a matter of fact so great, that we are sitting in 1st place after 1 day. (the boys are sitting in 2nd)

Current league scores:  Capital 84.5 MT 64.5 and CK 61 – gonna be a good day on Saturday.

100mH – this was a weird race as Hannah’s time kept jumping around – she was first displayed as 12th, then 11th but turned out to be actually 4th, with a new season best time and moving her way onto Districts – In the same race Ellie dropped another .25 seconds to grab 2nd place and moving on as well.  Both girls placed 2 places higher than what they were seeded.  Ellie’s time moves her up 12th all time and 7th on the sophomore list.

In the 100  – Regie got out of the blocks, probably the best she has all season long.  And took the lead from the get go and became the 1st Capital champion on the day.  In the 2nd heat Paris had the PR of the day, she dropped .46 on her way to 3rd place overall – the biggest jump in seed from anyone all day.  (seeded 11th got 3rd) . Her time puts her 21st all time and 6th on the sophomore list.

This lead directly to our 4×100 where Kailey got us off to a great start and clearly was making up ground on the teams around us.  Paris took the baton and continued the strong day – It was pretty obvious we were going to go well for us as Laurel kept the great work going and moved past the teams on the outside of us.  CK closed up the gap and even got a slight lead on us but Chloe was having none of it and closed out our 2nd place finish and getting more girls moving on.

In the field events we also got off to a great start.  In the Triple jump, Chloe and Hannah were both off to a great start and got into finals.  Both ended up with good PR’s and with 2nd (Chloe) and 4th (Hannah) place finishes punched their tickets to districts.  Hannah’s mark moved her all the way up to #10 all time and #6 sophomore mark.

Just a few feet away in the pole vault we were having a great day.  All 3 girls came away with bests.  Izzy, PR’d by a foot and tied the Capital freshman record. Kelsey JUST missed qualifying for districts (Is the league alternate).  Rosa vaulted her way to a league championship and raising her season best by 6”. Rosa is now 3rd on the senior list as well.

In the 1600 Bella raced her was to a 3 second PR and grabbing a spot to the district meet and also netting herself the #10 spot on the junior list just a few seconds from the all time list.  Maybe that will come next week. Naomi also raced to a new Season best and a spot on the podium.

Last event on the track was the 400 – we had 3 young ladies in the race and it really could not have gone much better for us.  Regie, who wasn’t feeling well, ran a PR and got a 4th place finish which is good enough to move through to districts.  Lexi was seeded 8th in her heat, had a great finish with a PR and a 6th place finish (bumped to 7th by a girl in 2nd heat) Kelsey, who hurt her rib cage in the PV – ran a great race today and also came away with a PR.  Lexi’s time breaks her into the all time list at #21 and is the 4th fastest freshman time.

The last event to finish, for the girls, today was the discus.  Both Tia and Jeanette competed very well and finish 3rd and 4th, both securing a spot at the district meet.  Tia’s PR today moved her to the 20th spot all time, and the 6th spot on the sophomore list.

Saturday our bus leaves at 9:00 – we should have some room to you want to tag along.  Let us know if you are interested.  Also, I think there is a VERY real chance that we will be league champions!!!  I would love it to see a bunch of girls around to grab the trophy at the end of the meet.  Please, Please, PLEASE hang around and be apart of the celebration, should it happen.
