HELP NEEDED!! and week highlights

Wednesday: Last chance meet – this is our last meet for many kids, but we have a major issue – NO BUS – all available busses are taking 5th graders to Cispus. Are any parents out there who would be willing to pick some kids up on Wednesday and take them to Tumwater Stadium if needed.

Friday: Shaner invite – We get one kid per event for this meet and we do NOT take a bus. Each athlete is responsible for their own transportation to and from this meet.

Saturday: Freshman invite: We have a bus for this meet and it is for ALL 9th graders. It is a great meet! I am also looking for someone/anyone who wants to help me run the girls High jump event at 9:30 on Saturday.

as always – questions – come ask!

Last dual meet – vs Aberdeen

So I think this might be kind of long so please read all the way through.

First: I know this has been a really long week for some of us, and I have to say that I am incredibly proud of how you all supported each other this week. I saw lots of hugs and arms on shoulders the last few days. I know that some of you had a hard few days and I still want you to know that your coaches are still here for you!!

Second: What a great day!! I have been saying that a lot, but today, again – you never cease to amaze me. Today we had 33 season bests – granted many were because it was the first time you did an event but not all of them.

Bailey Y – had a HUGE HUGE HUGE PR in the Shot put today!!!
Laurel – Camiele – Haley C all had great 200′s
Macy met her season goal in the High Jump today!
Haley V had a 10 foot Season best in the Javelin today
Camiele had a HUGE PR in the 100 hurdles today
Nancy showed the ultimate toughness and came straight from her DOL test that got rescheduled and jumped right into the hurdles which is a VERY tough thing to do.
Hansi – upped her PR in the PV moving herself up the PV list
We had a number of girls PR in the 1600 and 800.

I know that there are others but those are the ones I can remember.

Third: We have water stops this weekend and REALLY need some help at South Sound running at 7:00 on Saturday morning!! If you have not volunteered yet – now is a very good time!!!!!
Also, on Saturday we have the Shelton Invite – Lauren, Christine, Haley V., Camiele, and the 4×100 of Laurel, Haley C, Camiele and Carolina chosen to get in.

REST OF SEASON:
Next Wednesday (Tumwater stadium) – Last chance meet for everyone to improve your ranking to get into the league meet.
Friday -NEXT week – Shaner Invite – we get to put one person in each event and try to get a 2nd in each event (2nd not promised
Saturday – Freshman invite – ALL Freshman can go to the meet and it is GREAT a great meet for them.

The week following – League championships – top 8 in the league are in – the next 2-4 MAY be in.

This week – PLEASE HELP

We have our last home meet of the season on Wednesday – it is just us and Aberdeen. It should be a great meet on the guys side and a big win for the ladies. Let’s get out there and really support the guys this week!

For parents, family and friends – we could still use a few people to help out at the meet – We have a bunch of easy jobs to fill. I am particularly interested in someone who could help us type results so that we can get scoring and results done in a timely manner.

the meet starts at 3:45 and should definitely be done by 6:30 – INCLUDING clean up!!

Just a reminder, we do expect all our athletes to be there at the end of the meet so they can 1. support their teammates and 2. help put all the equipement away.

Saturday: Shelton Invite – This is a very select invite and everyone that qualifies is very lucky – they only take 16 athletes in each event and they are very picky. We hope to get 10-15 athletes qualified for this meet. we will know Wednesday morning who actually gets into the meet.

as always – please ask if you have questions

Oregon day 2

Saturday was just a good as Friday :)

EVERY girl had a GREAT performance, and almost everyone either set a new PR or placed higher than they were seeded coming into the meet.

Lauren and Christine both set a new PR in the 1500 and the converted times were faster than their 1600 PR’s

The sprint Medley Relay of Stef, Haley C, Eliza, and Payton placed 3 places above their seed.

Camiele lowered her season time in the 300 hurdles by almost a full second.

Haley Vick had a solid outing in the Discus moving up a few places over her seed

In the 800 – Payton ran a 3 sec PR and moved onto the all time list at #16 overall!! and is solidly on the list for the sophomores now. and then she turned right around and in the next event . . .

Helped Stef, Camiele and Hannah lower our time in the 4×400 by just under 4 seconds as all of the girls ran at or very near their PR’s in each leg.

Again, it makes the coaches very happy and proud when we see everyone on the team show up and try their bests, especially when we go to big meets like this!!

Oregon day one

What a great day for the cougars at the track today:

The day was good for the Cougars.

Started off with the 3000m meters.
Lauren beat her seed time by just under 5 seconds with a nice race finishing 10th
Christine – just missed a PR by less than 2 seconds but was 14th overall
Hannah – had a fine day running 9 secs faster than her seed time putting together a very nice race

In the Distance Medley relay
Payton, Kim, Eliza, and Nicole lowered the time we ran last week and beat our seed by 3 places, beating 3 teams that had run faster times than we had.

They top finish of the day for the girls was Camiele – she was seeded 19th out of 15 in the triple jump. and jumped a nice PR of 34-5.75 to get 6th.

Super proud of all our girls tonight and while we don’t normally mention boys on here – since I am the girls coach, but Ryan Chase broke the school record today in the Triple jump!! he jumped 44-3.25″

Tomorrow we have the sprint medley relay, 1500, 800, Discus, 300 hurdles, 4×400, and 100 We will be busy!

Capital at Black Hills

Really a good day for the ladies on and around the track today!

Unfortunately we came up on the losing end tonight 70-80, which means it will be very hard for us to win the league championship but we just will have to wait and see, River Ridge and Black Hills go head to head next week and if RR wins, we will all be in a 3 way tie for first place. Anyway back to the meet.

We had 38, yes 38, Season best marks today – and that is what helped us hold Black Hills to their season lowest total in a meet. This is the only meet this year where they have scored below 100. and we didn’t even load up the events, but we competed VERY well as usual.

Here are some of the things that jumped out at me.

Thanh got her first clearance in the high jump today!! and Laurel PR’s by 2″ to go 4-8 today.
Rachel C. had a HUGE PR in the long jump today – almost a full foot! it also moves her into the top 6 for the league!
Savannah continues to show great improvement in the shot put every week getting another 5 or 6″ PR today
Eliza had a very fine outing in the 1600 with a strong 2nd place finish.
Camiele jumped in the 100 Hurdles today and got 2nd place, finishing with a PR and beating one of the top 3 hurdlers in the league in the process – She is also just .1 away from making the record book in the hurdles.
Stefanie jumped into her first open 400 race and ran a great time putting her in the top 8 in the league only .9 away from top 5
EVERY runner who did the 800 tonight set at least a season best and 4 had overall PR’s, congrats to Hannah, Nicole, Rylee, Amanda, and Stephanie C.
Haley C had her 2nd straight meet with a PR in the 200.

Big time performances

We had 2 girls get in the record book tonight.
Torie added her name to the Pole Vault records tonight in her first outing in the pole vault.
Payton moved herself from #25 to #16 in the 400 meters tonight with a fine time of 62.93a. That is good enough for #2 in the league right now.

Tacoma invite – one Crazy day!!!

Ok so today had to be one of the most atypical (not normal) days at the track that I have seen in such a long time. but it emphasized, over and over again, why I love this team!!!

We will start simple, We had 11 season or personal bests today, and that is in spite of the fact that:

1. the weather was in order, decent, windy, cold, wet, pouring, clear, windy and Pouring, to cold to . . . well you get the picture.

2. The officials were, should we say, CHALLENGED. If you need examples just ask. But some just left their events, others didn’t know all the rules. In the running events you might have had to stay in a line for an hour waiting to run.

ANYHOW . . .
We started with the Distance Medley relay – we were seeded 6th coming into the meet and finished 3rd with great performances from Payton, Eliza, Nicole, and Hannah – in that order.

Then both Ellie and Haley placed higher than their seeds in the 100 hurdles and the 100m

Both Carolina and Camiele had season bests in the triple jump with great efforts while the weather was terrible.

In the 1600 both Nicole and Hannah had great efforts in the race and Nicole came away with a season best!

Camiele had a nice effort in the 300′s after literally bouncing off of the high jump pit and running directly to the starting line (BTW- tied her PR in the high jump today too)

speaking of the HJ – while waiting for almost 50 min between some of the jumps Laurel was very close to a season best and almost knocked Camiele out at one point – funny story (sorry Camiele but it is funny now that we know you are alright)

Rachel C. had another solid day in the Pole Vault

Haley V had her 3rd best discus throw ever today :)

Both Payton and Elisa had VERY strong races in the 800 with Payton winning her heat

Drew had a HUGE PR in the Javelin throwing a 12′ 4″ PR in the javelin!!! That is just amazing!!! and in my estimation the best effort of the day!!!!

We Ended the day with Lauren and Christine having another great day in the 3200, both getting nice PR’s and placing 2nd and 7th respectively!

I soo much appreciate how well ALL of our girls go out and compete every time out! It just make me proud of each and every one of you!!

Current League standings

Current League standings:

1st – Capital 4-0 8 points towards league championships
2nd – Black Hills: 3-0 6 pts

Tie for 3rd:
River Ridge, W.F. West, Tumwater 2 points

Tie for 6th
Centralia, Aberdeen 0 points

The worst we can be seeded going into the league championship meet is tied for 2nd.

BTW – we get 2 points for every team we beat during the week and 3 points for every team we beat at the league championships. When you add all those points up after the league championships (also called sub-districts) the School with the most points is the league champion. So having higher points going in to that meet is a very good thing for us!!

Capital, Centralia @ Tumwater -UPDATED

What a great meet tonight ladies!!

Final score was Capital 70, Tumwater 69, Centralia 47. It came down to the 4×400 relay where we HAD to get top 2 to win the meet. The girls had an 8 second PR to get 2nd (all 3 teams finished within 4.4 seconds of each other).

It was great to see a number of people really step up tonight, while I don’t have full results here are some things we know.

Haley had about a 7 foot PR in the discus tonight and went over 100′ for the first time ever!!
Savannah also had a HUGE PR tonight in the Disc. – I heard in the 7-8 foot range!!

The jumps were VERY tough tonight with the wind but we still were pretty successful. I believe that all the Pole Vaulters (Hansi, Rachel C, and Lieka) all set or tied their bests tonight!

We had a number of girls step up in new events and run well. The relays were all jumbled up but showed VERY well and were very competitive.

We did compete very well tonight and I am VERY proud of everyone.

So we had 33, yes 33. PR’s tonight. We not good weather that is a GREAT night.

Christine won 2 events tonight the 1600 and the 3200.
