Black Hills – League Meet #3

It was Definitely a WET day – but Steve Taylor promised me that the booster club could provide sun for the next meet ;)

We really competed pretty well today, We started off with a BIG win in the 4×200 with the team getting about a 3 second PR.
Overall we had 31 season or Personal bests today – even with the, not so perfect, weather.

Bailey had a GREAT day in the shot put today setting a new PR by OVER a foot!!! and Kelsi had another 7 ft PR in the Discus.

We had 5 girls set new bests in the long jump – Great job Macy, Emma, Galen, Rosa, Elise. Good day for sure.

In the Sprints – Haley and Laurel continue to improve and have a set a good pace for the sprinters to live up to. We had Macy – Galen -Morgan and Clare all improve today in the 100

Megan improved her 300m time by over 3 seconds today as well!!!

The distance girls all competed VERY well and we picked up a bunch of quality points today.

The Pole vault saw Torie, Leika and Audrey getting new marks today – Audrey worked her way into the record book today for the first time with that mark in the vault.

When I tried to predict points for todays meet they could have put up more than 35 points than us, but they were only able to out score us by 16!! Which means we did very will against them and that includes the fact that we did not put anyone in the Triple jump – Very proud of the way that we are competing. Now if we could just figure out how to properly prepare for a race (cough, cough, hint – hint sprinters) we will be amazing.

Next up: Bill Harris invite – Federal Way on Saturday
Next Wednesday – Home vs Aberdeen (Remember Steve promised sun)

Tumwater and Centralia

We got some great performances and some crazy things tonight.

first off the meet started over 35 minutes LATE and finished almost 2 hours late. Sorry for those parents out there who patiently waited.

So Overall we had a good day today! We had 32 season or personal bests today (some due to doing an event for the first time) We had 3 notable updates today. Haley set a new personal record in the 200 moving her to #20 all time and #9 on the junior list. Rosa improved her rise up the Pole Vault list by improving her mark by a full foot – she is now #9 all time and #3 sophomore mark. Not to be outdone, Lauren set a new PR in the 1600 running the #2 all time mark (also #2 junior mark) She is now 3.24 seconds away from her first individual school record.

In the field events today Kelsi had another 9 foot PR in the discus today. and Grace also had a PR in the Disc.

In the Javelin: Grace, Nicole, Elise and Leika all set PR;s
Elise also set a PR in the shot put.

Galen and Macy both set season or Personal bests in the long jump today.

On the track today we had some excitement ;)
Haley was edged by .01 in the 100 but came back and dominated the 200 (see above)

Tae’lor tried the 800 today and finished 2nd – leading the way – tonight EVERY girl that ran the 800 ran a PR!!!

in the 1600 – you already know how Lauren did but Inanna set a PR by about 50 seconds tonight!! It was a great race. 7 of the top 10 girls in the league ran in the race today.

The 3200 was a great race all three of our girls were running the event for the first time. Rachel and Marin came away with 2nd and 3rd with GREAT races tonight!! Both are now in teh top 10 in the league after that time.

We ended in a 66-66 TIE with Tumwater, It should have been a win but we screwed up a few races and had the girls show up for the wrong race.

See you tomorrow!!

Arnie Young invite – and Spring break

First off:

Reminder that we do have practices over break:

Distance: M-W-F at 3:00
Sprints/Hurdles: T-W-Th 3:00 (Thursday time might change)
Throws: M-T – 3:00
Jumps: M-W – 3:00
Pole Vault – and Javelin – Wednesday 3:00

On to the meet:

What an INCREDILE day for the ladies!!! Guys too actually.
We started off the day on the track with the Distance Medley relay consisting of Sarah-Camiele-Payton and Lauren Ran 12:56.87 lowering the school record by just under 4 seconds. – It was a GREAT TEAM effort, with each girl running faster than we slated them to run.

Field events: The weather really made it tough on the field events today and we didn’t have too many girls competing today, but it was decent overall.

The first events included the shot put where both Bailey and Kelsi set lifetime PR’s and Kelsi improved by just about 2 feet – just from Wednesday!!!

Kelsi turned around and had a nice throw in the discus getting a very small but nice PR (any PR is a good PR)

In the javelin – Lisa had a season best and her 2nd longest throw of all time and Drew picked her self up a 6th place finish.

We will just say that it was a tough day in the jumps! Maybe the HJ coach should be fired. (for those of you who don’t know – I am the HJ coach)

The sprints – not to be outdone – had an outstanding day of their own. Haley ran a season best in the 100m and Laurel ran a lifetime best as well. In the 200 Stefanie had a very nice run posting a season best, close to what she ran at the end of the season last year.

800m: Payton ran a season best to a 2nd place finish (after running a then season best in the DMR) moving her to #4 in the all time Junior list. Innana also set a lifetime PR today with a strong run

1600m: Both Torie and Marin had great races on the way to PR’s today. They ran very different tactical races, but each allowed them to get to where they needed to be.

100m Hurdles: Hannah ran ver nice technical race are earned herself a good PR. She showed today that she is ready to take the next step as a hurdler.

Even with a school record already in the books, we had 2 races that really stood out!
in the 3200 Lauren, after running a personal best in the DMR 1600, turns around and runs a personal best and breaks the Meet record!!!!! Her time keeps her in #4 all time for the 3200 but moves her up to #2 on the junior list – but for now we will keep her at #3 (it’s a fun story ;) ) Sarah also had a GREAT day lowering her time to put herself #16 all time and #7 on the freshman list.

The most exciting race of the day was the most exciting race of the day. The 4×400 was pretty amazing! Tae’lor ran almost 3 seconds faster than her previous best - Kim ran an outstanding race especially considering that she ran the 4×200 the race right before!. Camiele closed the gap on the lead teams and ran almost same time she ran last year at the end of the season. Then came the final leg. Payton passed and moved us up to 3rd at about the 200 mark. The girl passed her right back then down the final homestretch the girl in 5th passed them both putting us back to 5th. The 3 girls ran stride for stride for about 30 m then at the very last second Peyton moved right between the 2 girls and secured 3rd place overall with just less then .3 of a lead on the 2 teams right behind us.

At the end of the day the meet officials chose Lauren as the Female track athete of the meet! and the team finished 8th out of 20.

Again I think it was a GREAT day for the Cougs – Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds for us. Keep working hard ladies! there are good things in store for us !

First things first:

The WFW head coach stopped me on the way out AND sent and email thanking us for all the Help!!!
she specifically mentioned the parents who helped and the fact that the hurdles went up and down SOOO fast. Thanks so much you have really make us look good today.

on to results: I am not going to be able to compare to record book tonight but here is what I know about Season best marks!

3200:
We got the sweep 1-4 in this event and really raked up the points! What to go ladies finishing Nicole, Hannah, Lauren, and Inanna!!!

the 300 hurdles were my favorite race of the day!!! Kim showed GREAT heart and composure by getting up twice AND STILL PLACED. It would have clearly been a nice PR today!!! and Megan ran her first ever 300′s and did a great job as well.

I was super happy with all of our Relays today! We ran very good early season times today!!

In the HJ Laurel tied her PR of 4-8 and almost had 4-10 in all her attempts – huge PR will be coming soon. Also Tae’lor and Camiele had fine showings going 4-6 each.

in the PV Rosa got opening height and made her way into the school record book!!!

On to the throws!!

Shot put: Bailey had a small PR but placed 3rd against GREAT competition
Kelsi REALLY stepped up and threw a 5 foot PR.

Discus: Kelsi also had a GREAT day in the disc with a 13 foot PR – 13 feet can you believe it???

In the javelin the girls improve by a combined 35 feet today – truly AMAZING

Drew picked up right where she left of last week and improved by another 5 feet winning the Javelin by 9 feet with a throw of over 107′
Not to be outdone Lisa improved by 11′ over last week
Preethi improved by 9 feet
and Grace improved by 10 feet!!

Unfortunately even with all the great performances WFW was able to come out with the win today but it really was a GREAT day for our team!!!
