Meet @ Shelton

Today was an interesting day – The weather was great as we left Capital – by the time we got to Shelton the wind was getting a little gusty, then as the meet went along the wind became pretty heavy and constant.  With that said we ended up with 21 Season or lifetime bests – now granted 7 of those were from girls who ran an event for the first time. That still leaves 14 girls who had bests today J

It was a really good day in the throws today – It started right off with Janessa throwing an 8’6” PR in the discus – That is a 14% improvement.  Right after that throw I walked over to the Shot put to see Grace have an exactly 1’ PR in the event.

Bailey continued her undefeated streak in the Narrows League winning today matching her lifetime PR of 33’ 4” in the shot put.

Then over at the Javelin Makenzie throws the Javelin 81’7”, which is just about a 9’ PR for her.  This makes Makenzie the 4th girl who has made the all time list this year in the Javelin – She checks in at 24 all time. Faith, Elise and Annie (more on her later) also got PR’s in a tough event today

Aven – running her first 1600 ran a gusty race and set a nice season record along with Marin – Hannan and Skylar.  All doing a nice job of dealing with the wind to get to good marks.

Other performances that got in the record book today would be Payton in the 400 she added her name to the Senior list today at #6.

There were a number of other PR’s today but there are a few that stick out to me – Kaily – who had fought off just about every sickness this season gets a PR in the 100 in a big headwind – one of just 2 girls from any of the schools who got a PR today in the 100 (of those who had run it before today)

In the 300 Hurdles, as in the Javelin, we see someone new stepping up each week – a few weeks ago it was Kim, last week Hannah and today it was Torie.  She had a great, GREAT race today.  Her last 2 hurdles were absolutely amazing and she literally won the race in the last 3 steps with a new Season best taking 5 seconds off of her time!

Probably my favorite PR’s of the day came from Annie.  She had a little PR in the long jump AFTER waiting in long lines and then having to jump directly into the wind – but then also in the Javelin throwing a 5’ PR in an event that had the wind blowing some Javelins literally sideways – getting 2 PR’s today in events that were highly affected by the winds is a big deal.
